Design Reel

This week I chose a design reel that includes many of today's popular television shows. The designer did a very good job desplaying all the shows and titles while making it very entertaining to watch. I feel this type of design reel includes a lot of what we have been learning in class and inspires me to challenge myself to make something equally as good as this.

Starry Night

This week I chose to share an interactive animation of the painting "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh. The way they animate the brush strokes are very beautiful to me and I didn't expect the artist to physically interact with the piece as well.

Life in the Womb

This week I chose to share a video that animates the 9 months of pregnancy in as little as four minutes. The animation and accuracy of the video really keeps you intrigued and is an amazing and educational piece of art.

Nature by Numbers

This past week I have been really diving into learning about sacred geometry. I have been wanting to find a way to design a unique geometrical tattoo for myself. As I started studying more about the subject I started finding more and more amazing videos that demonstrate how sacred geometry is everywhere. This specific video deals with objects in nature that mock the fibonacci sequence.

This video has opened my eyes on how so many things are really connected through out the world without most of us even realizing it. Makes me wonder what else in this world holds this golden ratio.

"Float On" Modest Mouse

This week I chose to share a video to one of my favorite songs of all time. "Float On" by Modest Mouse is an amazing piece of music, but what they did with the video made it even more enjoyable. The song really speaks to me. It talks about all the bad things that can happen to you in a day but realizing that it is not the end of the world and that the important thing is that we get to live on another day. I feel like with this type of animation that they used in their video really helped portray a positive mood and fun loving atmosphere.

I feel like the animation used here is very similar to the ones we have done in class. Especially the one with the photoshopped images with the drill sergeant and the soldier. I feel like they made it very simple but well and fun.

Destino

This week I chose to share a video I came across on Facebook. This short film tells the story of Chronos, the personification of time and the inability to realize his desire to love for a mortal. What really captured my attention were the creators of this film. The film was originally a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali that started in 1945. The production of the film stopped due to the financial struggle at the time during the WWII era. In 1999 Roy Disney unearthed the project while working on Fantasia 2000. Twenty-five animators deciphered Dali's storyboards and finished the animation in 2003.

This film really has both of the qualities of theses brilliant artists. It had such a predominant story and hopeful feeling but had such abstract features which just made everything feel so magical.

Motion Design

This week I chose another video that I have seen in Vimeo that really shows the endless creativity and possibilities when it comes to motion design. The reason why I like this video so much is because it integrates animation with reality. I love it when is see animations in real life situations. It is something I plan to do much of myself one day.

It really captured a lot of well done 3D aspects along with many amazing 2D transitioning. There are many elements here that play in to a lot of films that I have seen, such as the digital programming that is visible when creating the car or assisting the soldier. Overall I think this is a great video and I feel it really speaks on what motion design really is and what it can create.

Liquid Motion

This week I saw a video on Vimeo that demonstrated the trend of liquid motion. Liquid motion is when organic shapes transform in a liquid way. I find it very intriguing and thrilling. I have always wanted to learn how to make these kinds of animations and was not aware that it is now considered a trend. I can see why many people are drawn to it because there are not many limitations to the animation.

This type of transformation really brings a psychedelic feel to animation. I enjoy seeing how creative people can be with liquid motion and hope to learn how to do it myself one day.

This week I chose to share a short film I saw on Vimeo called "Elements of Design." This video really breaks down each one of the most important elements you need when it comes to design. The video itself plays through animation that relates to each one of the elements that is being shown which makes it really intriguing to watch.

The video really inspired me to be more creative and more particular when I design things now. I feel like this can really spark some ideas for anyone who tries to design or animate.

Wake

This week I saw this video on Vimeo and it really caught my interest. There were many elements in this video that made me think how simple yet powerful this piece is. The video is called "Wake" and it is an experimental student short. The theme of this short is consciousness. It was inspired by the 2nd season of the television show Mr. Robot. I enjoy the 3D graphics of this piece very much. It gives a deeper connection with the audience.

Overall the piece gave me chills and sent me pretty deep into thought about what was going on and how it was effecting me. The video is very abstract and intriguing and I hope it makes others feel as curious and entertained as I was.

Motionspire.com

Motionspire is the first motion graphic inspirational gallery. It is a broad online gallery with the works of a verity of people. There are many categories of galleries to look at. From dealing with 2D and 3D graphic design, to short films, and even motion graphics only dealing with typography; there are many different compositions that are very interactive and inspiring to those interested in motion design.

One piece that I particularly enjoyed from this website was called "Listen." It was a short film that had both real life film that transformed into animation. It has to do with someone trying to review over study cards of different animals with a young child. You can tell that the child is becoming overwhelmed and frustrated through his voice, but the graphic images that are being displayed really help you visualize his emotions. These graphic images are very spiratic and confusing but fit in with the piece well and really convey a sense of frustration and confusion.
